The artists of the Back Room Gallery at Books and beyond invite you to another season of Second Fridays. This year will kick off with a reception on Friday, May 11th from 5 - 7 pm. Meet the artists and enjoy the conversation of good friends with wine and appetizers. The nineteen local artists of the Back Room Gallery at Books & Beyond feature rotating shows of the finest art in the region. Media represented include watercolor, pastels, acrylic, photography, pottery, sculpture and fiber art. Each season the Artists host receptions, artists-in-action events and station docents in the gallery.
The featured artist on May 11th is Debbie Norton. Norton's pine needle basketry has been a favorite of Back Room art patrons since first introduced. About her work Norton states, "Basketry is who I am. It is the marrow in my bones. It connects me to the Earth and its elements. It's a spiritual event. From the gathering, constructing, sharing, and teaching, it is what I do and who I am."

The On-Line Library of Liberty is a program of Liberty Fund, Inc. a private, educational foundation established to encourage the study of the ideal of a society of free and responsible individuals. It was founded in 1960. The Foundation develops, supervises, and finances its own educational activities to foster thought and encourage discourse on enduring intellectual issues pertaining to liberty. This is done through the implementation of different programs: Each year, Liberty Fund conducts over 150 conferences throughout the United States, Canada, Latin America, and Europe. Liberty Fund publishes about 10 - often classic - books each year. There is an online catalog where these books can be ordered.Liberty Fund has produced video and audio tapes including The Intellectual Portrait Series of videotapes and DVDs which records conversations with some of the most significant thinkers of our time. These programs focus on the place individual liberty has in an intellectual heritage evident from ancient times and continuing through our own times. The programs are intended to enrich understanding and appreciation of the complex nature of a society of free and responsible individuals and to contribute to its preservation.

In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris's bestseller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate caseagainst religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos. With eloquent clarity, Hitchens frames the argument for a more secular life based on science and reason, in which hell is replaced by the Hubble Telescope's awesome view of the universe, and Moses and the burning bush give way to the beauty and symmetry of the double helix.
